Dr Samantha Smith
(Environmental Manager)
Manager Profile

Dr. Smith had her first involvement with the Solwara 1 Project in December 2005, when she was an on-board researcher and environmental consultant during the Placer Dome-Nautilus Minerals DP Hunter offshore campaign. In 2006, Dr. Smith was asked to join Nautilus to manage the environmental program. Dr. Smith holds a BSc (Hons) from McMaster University in Canada, and a PhD from England's University of Bristol. She brings over 10 years of experience in conducting inter-disciplinary studies that combine geochemistry, biology, hydrology and modeling techniques. Her research experience includes water quality and environmental assessment studies in Mexico, Canada, UK and Papua New Guinea. Her current responsibilities at Nautilus include managing the impact assessments of our operations, as well as managing associated studies for seafloor mineral extraction.

“Working with Nautilus allows my team to set the standard for environmental best practice in an entirely new industry. In addition, we have the opportunity to extend our knowledge of the deep sea – which is exciting, particularly because our job involves working with world-leaders in marine science.”
